the terms, in plain words.
These terms apply when you create a Recto account or use Recto to make and share documents. By creating an account you agree to them. If you use Recto for a studio or company, you agree on its behalf.
01Who runs Recto
Recto is run and sold by Recto. You can reach us at any time through the contact form; we answer by email.
02Your account
- You must be at least 16 and give a real email address.
- Keep your password safe. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
- Tell us straight away through the contact form if you think someone else has access to it.
03The 7-day trial and plans
- Free trial: a new account can use Recto for 7 days, with a “made by recto” watermark on shared documents.
- After 7 days the account is locked until it moves to a paid plan. Locked means you can’t create, edit or upload — but nothing is deleted, and links you already shared stay open for your clients.
- Studio is paid in advance in cryptocurrency: $13 for 1 month, $29.97 for 3 months or $99 for 12 months, through our payment provider NOWPayments. It doesn’t renew by itself: when the paid time ends, the account locks until it’s renewed. Enterprise is priced by agreement.
- Crypto payments can’t be reversed once sent. If you send too little or too much, you get Studio time for what arrived. If a payment goes wrong or Recto doesn’t work as described, we’ll help — see the refund policy.
- Prices, billing and cancellation details are shown before you pay. We’ll give at least 30 days’ notice before changing the price of a plan you already pay for.
See the current plans on the rate card.
04Your work belongs to you
You keep all rights to the documents, images, logos and other material you put into Recto. You give us only the permission we need to store it, show it to you, render it (including as PDF), and show it to the people you share it with. We don’t use your work for anything else.
05What you are responsible for
You are responsible for what you put in your documents and who you share them with. Make sure you have the rights to use everything you upload — images, logos, fonts and text. Don’t use Recto to:
- break the law, or share material that is illegal, infringing, hateful or harassing;
- send spam or mislead people, for example by pretending to be another person or company;
- spread malware, or try to get into other accounts or overload the service;
- copy or resell Recto itself.
07Photos, icons and fonts in the editor
The editor’s library includes material from other providers under their own licences: photos from Unsplash (under the Unsplash License — please credit photographers where you can), icons from open-source sets through Iconify, Open Peeps illustrations (CC0), and fonts under the SIL Open Font License. These licences, not Recto, decide how you may use that material.
08Deleting things
Documents you move to the trash are permanently deleted after 30 days, together with their comments, reading statistics and versions. After that we can’t bring them back. You can delete your whole account yourself at any time, from the billing page.
09The service
We work hard to keep Recto available and your work safe, but we provide it “as is”: we can’t promise it will never be interrupted or error-free. Keep copies (for example PDF exports) of anything critical. We may improve or change features over time; if we remove something important from a plan you pay for, we’ll tell you in advance.
10Limits of liability
To the extent the law allows, Recto is not liable for indirect or consequential losses — such as lost profits, lost business or lost data — and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn’t allow to be limited.
11Ending your account
You can stop using Recto and ask us to delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms; where reasonable we’ll warn you first and let you export your work.
12Law and changes
These terms are governed by the laws that apply in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. If we change these terms, we’ll update this page and its date and email account holders about significant changes; continuing to use Recto after that means you accept them. Questions: use the contact form.
